Assembly

flowmetr.gif (2755 bytes)Assemble the Flow Meter as shown. Be sure that the Rubber Stoppers are very solidly pressed into the Plastic Cylinder. Connect the top of the Flow Meter to the Enema Bag or Tank with a short piece of Latex Tubing (3-4"). Connect the tubing leading to the Nozzle to the bottom of the Flow Meter. There should be two Tubing Clamps in the system--one Standard or click ON/OFF Clamp and one Deluxe or Variable Clamp. Clamp placement is optional and determined by preference and convenience.

Flow Rates
  • Gauged by the splash on the side of cylinder.
  • From 50 to 1000 ml per minute.
  • From 2 to 40 minutes for 2 liters of Liquid.
Use

The rate of flow can be regulated with the Deluxe or Variable Clamp. The flow can be anything from a slow drip to a steady stream splashing against the side the cylinder. Once the desired rate is achieved, ON/OFF should be accomplished with the Standard or click ON/OFF Clamp. Flow rates available from 50ml to 1000ml per minute. That's 2 to 40 minutes for a standard two liter (quart) enema. The maximum and minimum rates will be influenced by the height of the tank and the end resistance.

Theory

The Drip Chamber furnished with our Retention Enema System is adequate for slow retention enemas. However, most volume enemas need a faster rate of flow than the Drip Chamber allows. In order to perceive a large range of flow rates, the stream is directed at a 90º angle from the vertical. This allows a greater visual range of flow.

A little experimentation with a stop watch and measuring cup will help to determine the right flow angle/drip/splash for the desired rate of flow.
