[ Circumcision Clamps ] [ FDA Letter ] [ Up ] [ Next ]
Four styles of circumcision clamps are illustrated here. Their purpose is to crush the foreskin cutting off circulation. After the foreskin has been clamped in place (and the skin crushed), the exposed foreskin is excised with a scalpel. The clamp can then be removed. The Tara KLamp® is specifically designed for use under "primitive" conditions - home, roadside, or in the bush. It does not use sutures, and it remains in place until healing is complete. Because irreparable damage of the foreskin is the essential purpose of these devices, they should never be applied unless excision of the foreskin is to follow.
Please read the letter to physicians issued by the US Food and Drug Administration relative to safely using these instruments. This letter and a quick personal review of the FDA records of medical accidents involving circumcision suggests that you absolutely must insure that the clamp is the correct size, undamaged, and properly assembled before use.
